Ritual

Rossi performs the same rituals before every race.
Rossi performs the same rituals before every race.

We had a pleasant but strange drive back from the track just before 5AM this morning. The sun was rising to our left, barely perceptibly at first, but the soft blow glow on the horizon grew stronger as we approached downtown Doha. I was sorry we’d missed the morning call to prayer: I quite like hearing it when I’m not trying to sleep. Few things about Qatar sum up how far from home we are like that electrified chanting floating on the air.

Being on the grid for the first time was great and I have lots to write about being there. But we’re about to leave for the airport and the long trip home, so I will get to telling my tales on the plane. Unless I end up sitting next to Nicky Hayden. Hey, last year it was Mika Kallio, so it could happen, right?

  • Hi Scott.

I must say that I love your travel stories! It’s always a good read to visit here when you travel around the world photographing the Moto GP crew.

How do you get your photos SO colorful?

    Best regards

    Which one is Rossi?

  • Peter Geran

About time YAMAHA changed the outfits for the Campaign Girls. So boring. How about SUZUKI..Still have the same old RIZLA girls in Police Uniforms ?

Scott gets colourful photos because he uses NIKON …

  • Peter; I’m also using a Nikon… but my photos don’t turn out that vivid from the camera 🙁

    • Just reading a great book I’ll be posting about before long, and one of the comments is that each image we take has 3 components: the image as we visualize it before we make the exposure, the digital file the camera creates, and the post processed file that, if we do the second step correctly, matches the visualization as closely as possible. RAW files always require some sharpening, saturation and contrast adjustment. The above image has a little of all three. 🙂

@Jan Lee – Rossi is the rider holding on to the foot peg as part of the routine he does every time he gets on the bike.
