PHOTO.GP Helmet progress, part 2

Work continues on the custom paint job by Marc Garcia of Magaro Paintings. Here is another round of photos, a couple toward the end with comments directly from Marc.

If you missed the first post on this subject, here it is.

Once again I thank Marc sincerely for allowing me to show these images of how he does his amazing work! And once again, all photos © 2012 Marc Garcia

One of the things that most interests me about Marc’s method is the detail given to the masking of graphic elements in the design. Notice on this instance of the PHOTO.GP logo at the front of the helmet how small pieces of masking tape are used here and there according to Marc’s experience of where a bit of extra coverage is needed.

Here is the logo at the back of the helmet.

If I tried this I would have red paint all over my left forearm.

Looks good!!

Some serious taping going on now!

Though the design is Marc’s, based on the Elbow Down artwork and PHOTO.GP logo, one thing I requested was that 58. I also wanted the AGV “Helmet” logo instead of the black letters only version that came on the GPTech.
Marc says: This shows the first complete coat of transparent lacquer.
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this image because I didn’t realize that the stipe down the middle was going to be this gorgeous metallic gray. Even more than ever I can’t wait to see the helmet in person.
Marc: The process continues with the lacquer. I have to wait 24 hours before sanding the entire helmet again, then applying another clear coat. If needed, I’ll do it a third time.
