Kenny Roberts: The King Rides Again
PHOTO.GP is proud to announce a signed, limited edition of historic significance: The King Rides Again commemorates two unique moments in American motorcycle history: Kenny Roberts’ dramatic victory at the 1975 Indy Mile, and his reunion 34 years later with one of the most famous motorcycles Yamaha has ever produced.
If any single performance stands alone in the history of American motorcycle racing, it may be Roberts’ 1975 Mile performance. In terms of his own career he said this: “When you think about individual rides… What was [my] best individual ride? I’d have to say riding the TZ750 at the Indy Mile.”
The infamous TZ750 had a short life as a flat track racer. “It was twice the horsepower of anything else out there, and it was lighter,” said Roberts. Fearing that other manufacturers would create their own over-powered machines to compete with the TZ750, the AMA quickly banned it from flat track competition, forcing the remarkable and dangerous machine into early retirement.
Roberts’ reunion with the TZ750 34 years later caused concern for all involved, including the rider. “I had my bone doctor on stand by… I was either going to make a complete fool of myself, or I was going to make it look like I knew what I was doing.” Roberts thrilled the crowd, which was full of members from the MotoGP paddock, and showed us all that he still had the magic to tame this infamous beast. No one who was there that night will ever forget the sound of the TZ750 or the sight of Roberts sliding it around the mile track.
This unique edition, limited to 50 signed and numbered pieces, is a 32″ by 16″ Giclée canvas gallery wrap, 1.5″ deep with black paper backing and hanging wire installed. It is ready to display upon arrival, no frame needed, but easy to frame if desired.
