Sausalito Sunrise

_T2P5628-Edit

Thunder and lightning woke me up at 3 AM this morning, and I toyed with the idea of going out early to see if I could catch a bolt during such a rare Bay Area thunderstorm. I went back to bed. Got up as planned at 5, though, and set out to see what Mother Nature would show me. I should say ‘us,’ as I’d planed to meet up with a friend I made on Flickr, who goes there by the name Louis_Imaging.

We had high hopes for the possibility of low fog and high clouds, finding just the right spot above the Golden Gate Bridge and capturing an amazing sunrise with fantastic color and a few bolts of lightning to top the entire composition off. No such luck. Instead we drove around for a long time, enveloped in fog so thick we could barely see the road. My friend had the idea to head low to Sausalito to see what we could see, and for a period of about 10-15 minutes, just as the sun crested the eastern horizon, we did get some color, and some amazing clouds.

After this short period, we headed back toward San Francisco to see if it had cleared up at all. It hadn’t. But we had a nice morning of chat, and did get a few minutes of an amazing sunrise.
