Setting Moon

The setting moon was visible from where I’d been shooting for about 7 minutes this morning as the clouds were changing pretty quickly. This morning’s colors in the sky were subtle but quite nice. The amount of snow that had melted since last week allowed me to reach several new spots, such as this one right on the water at the north eastern shore of Lake Tahoe.

  • Scott, this is awesome. The moon up in the clouds is perfect, and the colors and layers to the clouds are perfect. I was just looking through some Galen Rowell shots, and this really reminds me of a photo of his up at the Vermillion Lakes in Banff… I’ll see if I can dig it up for you. btw, any time I make a comparison to Galen Rowell’s work, that’s me paying my highest compliments 🙂

    • Ah, I see the similarity, and having one of my photographs compared to Rowell is high praise indeed, thank you!

Incidentally, I went back the next morning to try again for a moon that woud be slightly smaller but in the same general area. That morning’s sky could not have been grayer, or had less color or contrast, but there was a sliver of slapce that I expected the moon to pass through as it set. Waited for over an hour, checking the info on my iPhone and trying to judge the elevation at the time and also where on the horizon the moon would appear. It never did peek though the ever-changing gap in the clouds. So now I’m even more appreciative to have the image above!
