Went to bed at 5 AM last night, I mean, this morning, and slept until Wheeler knocked on my door 8 hours later. Feeling pretty good and a decent night’s sleep! Not a lot of comment in today’s post, just a few photos from the trip around town yesterday.
We saw this sign on the drive to the track on the outskirts on Doha’s financial district, and, well, just had to take a picture of it.
Earlier in the day we’d had a very enjoyable visit to the Islamic Museum. I posted several photos of what’s inside last year, but just looked for the link and found that it was on my old blog, which no longer exists online. Sorry, Qatar fans! Here are a few from yesterday.
This fountain is in the main hall and surrounded by tables for taking a break and looking out over the bay.
Looking up from the ground floor, this is one of the many views of the skylight.
The exhibit rooms are generally pretty dark and the item on display are lighted nicely.
The design on this scroll is repeated in many places around the museum. A more dedicated student of Arabic culture would’ve found out what it says.
One of the women checking bags at the entrance had these henna tattoos and kindly posed for my photo after returning my computer bag.
On the south courtyard of the museum, there are some interesting views, including this one of the Center for Islamic Study in the distance.
Tonight we go from the ancient and quiet to the modern and noisy. I’m really looking forward to it because I’l be on a MotoGP grid for the first time. Look for me on TV, Eurosport and BBC viewers!
